Dr. Hodan S. Isse

Dr. Hodan S. Isse is Co-founder & Board of the Somali Mental Health Foundation. Dr. Hodan, S. Isse is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor Finance and Managerial Economics School of Management, University at Buffalo, New York.   She received her Ph.D. in Economics 2002: Dissertation: The Effect of Foreign Aid on Trade and Income Levels at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. MS Degree in Economics, 1988: MS Degree in International Development, 1987, Ohio University, Ohio.

Dr. Abas M.Jama

Dr. Abas M.Jama, MD General Psychiatrist, Co-founder of the Somali Mental Health Foundation and the Chairman of the Board, President, Executive Officer of the Somali Mental Health Foundation. Dr. Abas M.Jama owns a private Practice. General Psychiatrist, Medical Staff at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, Ohio.  Specializing in the field of Psychiatry, Dr. Jama is prepared to diagnose and treat the various types of mental illness, such as Depression, Eating disorders, Bipolar disorder and Anxiety disorders, among other psychiatric illnesses and disorders.  Dr. Jama is trained to provide various treatments, included the prescription of medications, different forms of psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy, among other techniques. Dr. Jama completed his medical education at Second University of Naples in Naples, Italy and his residency at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington D.C. He is currently on the medical staff at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

 

 


Farhia Ali Abdi 

Farhia Ali Abdi is Vice President and board member of the Somali Mental Health Foundation. Farhia Ali Abdi is a Youth Employment Counselor with City of Ottawa, and Cofounder of Somali Women Circle Network. Farhia strongly believes mental health as a crucial component of personal health. She has been explicitly promoting mental health and social justice issues in Somalia. This includes women’s rights, youth and gender equity. Farhia is a researcher and has written several articles on women, youth and mental health and good governance and social development about Somalia. Farhia is a strong advocate of mental health integration into primary health care services, particularly in Somalia. She has over 14 years’ experience with municipal government, as Case Coordinator, Project officer, and Employment Specialist. Farhia has an extensive practical counseling experience working with women, youth, and families. Farhia has been advocating and working with Somali women and youth in the diaspora and in Somalia for more than 20 years. Farhia holds Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) with dual specialty in work, organization and leadership and community development, and Masters Certificates in Project Management, Facilitation Skills and Conflict Resolution, B.A. in Psychology. Her interests include grass-root community development, mentoring, program development and evaluations.


Hassan M. Esse

Hassan M. Esse is co-founder and a member of Board of Directors of the Somalia Mental Health Foundation, and also, Coordinator and Treasurer of the Foundation. Hassan Esse migrated to the United States of America from Somalia in 1983, living, educated and worked in United States of American in last 30 years.  Mr. Esse has a Bachelors of Science in Aviation Maintenance Management.  Mr. Esse has more than 28 year’s experiences in aviation management. Based on his professional experience and back ground, Mr. Esse will bring to the Board a unique background of commitment, passion and dedication to the Somali Mental Health issues, also, Mr. Esse could help area of business development and institutional capacity building and development on the mental health centers. Hassan has been advocating and working with Somali diaspora communities and youth in the diaspora and in Somalia for more than 20 years.


Abdullahi Y. Mohamed

Mr. Mohamed a member of Board of Directors is a Senior Network Engineer and currently works for  AT&T, company that  provides internet services, telecommunications, and variety of IT services including Internet, video and Voice, in addition to broadband and wireless. As a Senior Network Engineer, Mohamed is responsible providing deployment and support of network services including IP routing and switching for the company.  Before joining AT&T, Mr. Mohamed has worked for Sprint and Qwest Communications (currently Century Link).

Mohamed holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Milano Polytechnic, Italy and MS Degree from George Mason University, Virginia.  Mohamed currently resides Sterling, Virginia (Loudoun County) in the Washington Metropolitan area where he has been living for the past twenty years. He is a long time community organizer and volunteer member of The Somali Mental Health Foundation.


Dr. Mohamoud M Abdi

Dr. Mohamoud M Abdi, is member of Board of Directors of the Somalia Mental Health Foundation, and also, Coordinator of grant proposal of the Foundation

Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Somali National University, Mogadishu, 1980, Assistant Lecturer in Veterinary Pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Somalia.

Experience: Toxicological pathologist for a major pharmaceutical company. Over twenty years of experience in the development and safety of medicines including drugs for psychiatric conditions.

Dr. Abdi brings to the Board experience in the understanding of the general principles of medicines and their use and abuse, particularly drugs for mental health conditions.


Abdulwahab M. Farah

Mr. Farah is a Member of Board of Directors and also Coordinator and organizer of the Foundation, he has MS Degree in Electrical Engineering from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and also Bachelor of Electronics Engineering Technology from Capitol Technology University in Maryland. Mr. Farah currently works is the CEO of SomTronics Technology holds a management position. Mr Farah  has over 20 years of experience in the field of Engineering and Management. Mr. Farah also volunteers his time working with Non-profit organizations here in USA and also third world countries.


Abdiqani Abdullahi Askar,

Mr. Abdiqani Askar, Master Mental Health Psychology, is a Medical Director of the Somali Mental Health Foundation in Qardho Center in Somalia. Specializing in the field of Psychiatry, Abadiqani is prepared to diagnose and treat the various types of mental illness, Abdiqani Askar  is trained to provide various treatments, included the prescription of medications, different forms of psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy,

Dr. Fartun Mohamud

Dr. Fartun is member of Board of Directors of the Somalia Mental Health Foundation and also Research and Program Development for the foundation. Dr. Fartun is an Educator and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with years of experience working with diverse populations. She is an avid promoter of good mental health for all and works tirelessly to ensure the provision of culturally responsive treatment options.  Dr. Mohamud offers seminars and workshops that address mental health, conflict resolution, maximizing potential and enhancing growth capacity.  In her spare time,   Dr. Mohamud is an Adjunct Professor at Lynn University and Palm Beach State College.  Her research interests include global mental health, curriculum development and special education. She has been involved in numerous community awareness programs and has developed and implemented a wide variety of psycho-educational programs at the national and international level.
